Address and Directions

1931 Keepsake Loop- Westcliffe, Colorado

Navigation apps are generally reliable with directions. However, if your GPS directs you on a "quicker" route of CR 341, Tyndall, or Della Fox on the last 5 miles to BPH- do not take these roads as some are not well maintained for travel. Instead, stay on the main road of CR 328 - Rosita Rd. Keepsake Loop is directly accessible from CR 328-Rosita Rd. and is a well-maintained road for travel and plowed in winter.

You’ll see the loop turn across from the Rosita Cemetery and you can easily head up to the cottage from there.

Feel free to look at the directions on our webpage and use our special code if using Google maps: 85CP3MW2+CF

Driveway Entry

You won't see the cottage from the road.

Our sign and entry columns are what signifies where the driveway to BPH starts. Take a right directly after the house sign on the tree above the orange mailbox. The entry columns welcome you to access the long driveway down.

The driveway is steep. Drive cautiously, especially in wintery conditions to avoid vehicle sliding, and be on the lookout for wildlife.

Parking

If your vehicle fits, you may park in the carport. Please use caution with the cottage's heating/AC unity on the right side. Do not lean anything against the unit's fence as the unit requires 360 unobstructed space for airflow.

You may also park anywhere on the property, with the exceptions of the areas below:

DO NOT PARK/DRIVE:
  1. Past the Fox wood carving on the tree stump fronting the gazebo- this is our well head.
  2. In front of the propane tank- sensitive generator lines are buried in that area.
  3. In the open area between the patio and barn area - this is our septic.

Keypad Entry

A 4-digit code has been or will be sent to you from the host.

Use the code to enter the property's front door with these directions:
  1. Press the top button that says "Schlage" to light up the keypad.
  2. Key in the 4-digit code. The keypad will flash green and do a quick beep.
  3. Push the handle down and press the button on the handle just below the keypad handle to open the door.

NOTE: The door locks automatically.
Do not touch the locking mechanism on the interior of the door- it needs to stay in the horizontal position in order to work. For your safety, the lock has been taped to stay in the horizontal position so you don't accidentally lock yourself out.

Reminders

Mountain living is an incredible experience, but also presents quirks that guests may not be used to.  In addition to the possibility of the more severe issue, altitude sickness (See "Prepare for the environment"), please note the following that occurs due to the lower air pressure at BPH's altitude:

1.  Aerosol sprays (hairspray, whipped cream, etc.) can have slow streams or clog.
Fix: Run nozzle under hot water.

2. Chips and snack bags can expand and pop.
Fix: Open bag slightly to release air and reseal or place chips in an airtight container.

3. The cottage's split air system produces a low hum.
Fix: If necessary, use bluetooth stereo system to stream music, turn on TV, and use sleep sound machines provided at night.

4.  Lighters can stop working.
Fix: Be patient. Try igniting again and then try the various lighters provided in the top kitchen drawer in BPH.

5.  Dough rises faster and the baking process takes longer.
Fix: Look for high altitude baking adjustments in recipes.

6. Batteries may have reduced performance, as well as  appliances.
Fix: Contact Renee for batteries. BPH has a gas stove, oven, and dryer to combat altitude performance issues with electric appliances.

Altitude Sickness

While at Blue Pine Haven and exploring areas surrounding Westcliffe, you’ll be at 9,000 feet. If you are coming from a lower elevation, it is highly recommend that you drink lots of water.

If you are not accustomed to higher elevations, be sure to visit websites about mountain living and important health tips and symptoms to look for with altitude sickness.

Wildlife

BPH is secluded, tucked away in the woods, deep in bear, coyote, and mountain lion country.  You must practice safety when living among wildlife:
  • Do not leave food or trash outside or in vehicle
  • Lock vehicles doors and roll up windows
  • Do not leave door and windows open when cooking in the cottage

Renee will share information on outdoor security camera used to watch for dangerous animals near the cottage to alert guests.  Please take a moment to read about wildlife safety from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website.
